Cité internationale du Grand Morillon
The project known as the Cité internationale du Grand Morillon, located in the Petit-Saconnex neighbourhood, brings together three separate contracting authorities: the Terra et Casa Foundation, which is constructing a residential building of 88 apartments; Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), planning to build its new Swiss headquarters; and the Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID), which will eventually be providing accommodation for 700 students.
Although separate, the buildings planned by the three developers will on completion form a coherent architectural complex. To this end, the partners are cooperating closely in shaping their respective projects, with additional input from the State and City of Geneva.
One of the great assets of the Cité internationale du Grand Morillon development is its location in the immediate vicinity of the international organisations and the Palais des Nations. At the heart of a district characterised by a strong international presence, the fact that it will increase the housing stock available to this specific clientèle is clearly in line with the Foundation’s objectives.
Thanks to a promise to grant surface rights made by the State of Geneva in 2015, the Terra et Casa Foundation is now able to go ahead with this residential development. The building will be erected to plans drawn up by Bonnard Woeffray Architectes SA, winners of the architectural competition organised by our Foundation in 2017. Destined exclusively for rental purposes, the 80 apartments are due to be delivered end 2021.
